I'm a manufacturing graduate. After years working in this industry, I needed to find something better suited to my physical abilities. I began my own craft business. I now work from home, selling my handmade creations via my online shop and at various craft markets. I only discovered my love of creative writing after starting a craft blog.
My passions include craft, art, music and food. I try to always stay positive and to live life to the full. I would like to help in educating the community about the struggles of living with a disability. I would also like to help improve access to services for those of us who need them.
A report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics recently looked at the cost of living. It suggests energy costs have not risen in real terms for the past 20 years. But I do not fit into the category of an average Australian. My bills now seem very high. I now earn a lot less than I used to. I also have much higher bills from being at home more. I have tried to reduce my electricity consumption. I have installed fans, curtains and sky-lights. But I would like to do more. I would like to hear your tips for saving energy and money.
Pets make great friends. They can make us feel good. But looking after a pet is an important job. There are many things to consider when choosing the right pet. You need to think about how much space you have. You also need enough time and money to look after them. Organisations like the RSPCA can give you information. Your local vet can also be helpful. Research can help make sure you find a pet suited to your needs.
There are lots of different ways you can help in your own community. It can be very satisfying to help others. You might also learn new skills. Volunteer work is also a wonderful way to make new friends. I have been involved in many craft-making activities. Helping other people makes me feel good about myself. I feel like I am making a difference. I am sure you will be able to find opportunities that interest you. Victoria's Volunteering Portal has many ideas.
I forget that I look different to most people when out in public. I use an oxygen bottle. I push it around on a trolley everywhere I go. I had never met anyone else of my age in a similar situation before. But then I meet a young woman at a market. She had an oxygen bottle like me. At first I felt sad that she was so young. But then we had a good chat. It has made me think differently about how I see others.
